Feasting Balinese Style

When you're staying at an exclusive resort, it's easy, sometimes, to forget that you're in a country — one with its own unique foods and culture. Fortunately the Laguna Resort & Spa, Nusa Dua, Bali does a fine job of bringing Bali into the resort through its centerpiece restaurant, Mayang Sari. The restaurant serves a modern Balinese menu crafted by award-winning chef Made Putra. It's the rare resort restaurant at which locals might join you for dinner.

Off the resort, make a reservation at one of the two locations of Bumbu Bali, where you'll feast like royalty on the rijstaffel, a traditional Balinese communal meal that in this case includes three appetizers, soup and seven main courses, along with vegetables, rice and multiple desserts.

Should you care to learn more about Balinese and Indonesian cooking, the Laguna Resort offers an Epicurean Expeditions package that includes a cooking class with Chef Putra, dinner at Mayang Sari, and a coffee table-worthy cookbook.
